The same bet pays 7.8% less depending on which app you open.
We measured every prop quoted by 4+ books on our live board (1,148 markets this week): the best-priced book pays a median 7.8% more than the worst on the exact same bet, and 34.1% of markets have a 10%+ gap. Not shopping the line is a silent tax. Here's the 30-second habit that stops it.
The 30-second checklist
- 1.Never bet the first price you see.
The app you opened is not where the best price lives. Assume the first quote costs you money until proven otherwise.
- 2.Check the same bet on 2-3 books minimum.
Same player, same stat, same line, same side. Only the payout differs, and that difference is pure profit or pure donation.
- 3.Know each book’s cut.
The hold ladder below is measured from live boards weekly. A 13% hold book has to be MASSIVELY better on this one line to beat a 5% hold book.
- 4.Think in dollars per win, not "close enough."
A $50 winner at 1.85 vs 2.00 is $7.50 every single win. At a few bets a day that’s real money by Friday.
- 5.Let the screen do it in one look.
A live odds screen lines up every book’s price on the same bet, next to the fair (no-vig) price. That’s the whole habit, compressed to one glance.
The hold ladder, each book's quiet cut
Median two-sided hold (the margin baked into over+under on the same market), measured from our live board. Lower = fairer prices. Red = double-digit cut.

Live board snapshot; two-sided markets only (both over+under quoted), payouts 1.2-4.0x, freshest quote per book/market. Hold = 1/over + 1/under - 1. DFS pick'em books (fixed multipliers) are segmented separately — their hold works differently and some (e.g. Underdog) run bimodal standard/alt boards. Same-bet spread compares the SAME side of the SAME market across 4+ books.
